Intermission

It seems like a long time since I posted anything on here, and it's largely due to a) working full time and b) well, working full time. I've no idea how people who have jobs, ministries and families manage to find the time to blog. I think the way forward for me to continue writing on theology and biblical studies si to keep it shorter and sweeter. I've written some big beasty essays on here before but I'm going to have to cut down if I'm going to keep it regular.

On the plus side, the two hours a day I spend on public transport gives me plenty of time to read and keep my mind alive before I have to switch it off for work. I'm partway through The Theology of Paul the Apostle by James Dunn and also The Resurrection of the Son of God by N T Wright, and I have to say both books are excellents and definitely worth adding to your library. I've ventured outside of my usual areas of theological interest to read the superb book The Orthodox Way by Bishop Kallistos Ware, which is essentially a beginner's guide to Eastern Orthodoxy. It seems very alien when one has been immersed in the western tradition for so long but I really like the Orthodox approach to God, man, creation and also the huge emphasis on the trinity. Time-permitting I'll post on this later on, but here's a good quote for now:

"...the doctrine of the Trinity ought to have upon our daily life an effect that is nothing less than revolutionary. Made after the image of God the trinity, human beings are called to reproduce on earth the mystery of mutual love that the Trinity lives out in heaven...Each social unit - the family, the school, the workshop, the parish, the Church universal - is to be an ikon of the Triunity. Because we know that God is three-in-one, each of us is committed irrevocably to a life of practical service, of active compassion. Our faith in the Trinity outs us under obligation to struggle at every level, from the strictly personal to the highly organised, against all forms of oppression, injustice and exploitation. In our combat for social righteousness and "human rights", we are acting specifically in the name of the Holy Trinity."

Amen to that.
